As restrictions begin to lift, so will the influx of bookings to your rental or holiday property. Have you thought ahead to preparations for bookings? Do you have your cleaning covered and meeting the criteria for covid-19, or do you need an extra bit of help?

We all know the implications of having a bad review, it can impact bookings, prices, and recommendations - and with the market booming you cannot afford to let your standards slip!

Sarah, owner of the successful As You Wish Holiday Rental Management, explains the importance of keeping standards high:

“After spending the best part of a year locked away, people are now keen to get out and about. But instead of holidays abroad people are opting to holidaying in the UK. The undercurrent nervousness, restrictions and guidelines surrounding the covid-19 pandemic has led to a trend of booking we are now calling ‘staycation’.

This is fantastic for the UK and will help many struggling businesses across the country. Now is not the time to cut corners. More than ever the management of your holiday home is going to be vital. And given that most holiday lets are not around the corner to their owners, owners need to have the confidence and faith in their housekeeper to keep the standards high”.

Cleaning a holiday home is not the same as your standard cleaning process, everything needs to be cleaned and checked thoroughly, and then checked again. This means you need to have confidence in your housekeeper and know that they will report any problems directly to you, which can be paramount if your property is not local to you.

Cleaning to the highest of standards, Sarah and her team take the stress away ensuring your property is well cared for, maintained, and ready for use at the drop of a hat.

What your housekeeper does that you don't want to do

Employing someone to take care of your holiday let and trust that they will provide the service they promised when you first met them can be daunting.

Building trust and being able to communicate with them is crucial. A good review is not only a reflection on your holiday let, but also the housekeeper and their business.

Sarah, owner of As You Wish Services, gives her top tips for delivering an outstanding cleaning and housekeeping service:

First impressions count!

You only get one shot at this, so you need to look over a freshly cleaned property, like you are looking at it for the first time. You should ask yourself would you be happy to stay here? Your property needs to be clean, tidy and smell nice. Cushions should be neatly arranged, and everything in its place to make your guests feel at ease when they first arrive.

Ensure the fridge and freezer are clean

Remove any leftover food that may have been left in good will by the previous occupants. You want to ensure that self-catering is a pleasurable experience, so its vital that the pots and pans are checked, and everything is as it should be.

Windows should be cleaned regularly

People often pick the area they want to stay in because of the views so its essential that you show case the views off perfectly. Any small person shaped hand smears or dog shaped smudges should be wiped-off the glass.

Clean spaces, inside and out

As we hit the warmer weather you need to ensure that any outside area is clean and tidy. Patios should be clean and free from leaves or moss, and the condition of your garden furniture should also be checked. This is an area that is often given feedback.

Provide essential cleaning products

Leave clear instructions on your expectations on arrival and departure. For example, what they do with their rubbish, where the local bottle bank is etc. This encourages guests to take care of the holiday let.

It is so important for holiday lets to maintain high cleaning standards and have a reliable housekeeper; Sarah explains:

“Having a good housekeeper is important when running a holiday let and keeping it ticking over nicely for any upcoming arrivals. There should be no evidence of the previous guests and it is so important to check fridges, bins, social areas etc.

Your housekeeper should report any breakages and ensure the maintenance is kept on top of by letting you know if any DIY needs doing. A holiday let does not run itself and the amount of time it takes to clean a home from top to bottom can vary greatly. Let alone without sorting all the bedding and towels etc.

As the owner of a busy holiday rental management company, I can’t tell you how many times property owners say ‘I don’t know what I would do without you’ I end up being more than their housekeeper. Building rapport with your housekeeper can make for a happy, confident and stress-free holiday let business”.

Why builders and cleaners go hand in hand

During lockdown many homeowners decided it was time to make those long overdue repairs, have that long awaited kitchen fitted, even have a complete change around to make space for an extra bedroom. However, what many don’t consider is the cleaning involved post-construction.

If you have ever cleaned a property after building work or developments have been completed, you will know how incredibly off-putting it is when you just want everything done and ‘dusted’ (see what I did there?). It’s often overwhelming and you question, where do I even begin?

Well put the hoover down, pick up the phone and call Sarah at As You Wish Services. Sarah and her team have a wealth of experience in carrying out post-construction cleaning.

Owner of As You Wish Services – Sarah explains:

“No one looks forward to a post-construction clean, but it has to be done.  All too often, I have homeowners call me in a state of panic after they have had work done on their property. They hadn’t considered the aftermath and the level of cleaning involved, which often is a much bigger job than they first anticipated.

It’s been known for me and my team to be called at the last minute, and we arrive to pick up where you may have left off, and we ensure the job gets done and you don’t become overwhelmed.

Hiring professional cleaners can save you a lot of time and money, as we know exactly what to do, and not to mention we remove the hassle and stress often associated with construction works.”
